Meyers - Peanut and Polly

Meyers belong to the Poicephalus species. This species also includes the Senegal Parrot which is similar to the Meyers but not as laid back. ( I also aquired a Senegal pair on the same day. ) These guys are known to have moderate talking ability. They are aprroximatley 8 1/2 inches long.

I've had these little sweeties since New Year's Eve. We drove three and a half hours each way to get them. It was worth it. They were sold to me as a breeding pair so imagine my surprise when I was transferring the male into his big cage here when I hear "Hello"! I call the male Peanut as he loves to take peanuts in the shell from my hand.

Both the male and female are very gentle souls. She is not tame but very calm and even tempered. I sooooooooo hope that they give us some little ones.

Splendids

These little beauties are my Scarlet Chested or Splendid Parakeets. They are Australian Grass Parakeets. They are a lot more layed back than lovebirds and budgies.

I'd seen a few of these for sale on the internet - but nothing in my city. Then last fall while attending a local bird show I spotted these little gems. They were simply dazzling. I watched them for a while ( while my husband made a trip out to the bank machine -as I already spent the cash that I had with me). I chose this male and the seller pointed out the female. There were some turquoisines in the cage too and they - especially the females- are quite similar. My female is a redbellied mutation. I was a little worried at first that I had come home with two males, but no I have since found the information I need to confirm that she is a girl.

Since they are Ausralians I have named them Billy and Matilda . They have their nest box up as of today as I have have noticed that they have finally after seven months - become "friendly".

Websites Worth Looking Into

It's a beautiful sunny Friday afternoon. All my birds and the ones outside are happy and singing. I have a couple of great websites to share with you. I've discovered both of them only this week. They are both Canadian and have some great items for birds -including food and toys and supplements. The first one http://www.healthybird.net. is in New Brunswick. I placed my order on Tuesday and it arrived this morning =O) Everything was in good shape -very happy with them. I got excellent friendly -aim to please service here. The second website http://www.oisellerielavoliere.com/ is in Quebec. I placed an order late last night and received a phone call this morning telling me tht one item is out of stock and that the rest has been shipped already =O)) They have some very nice things on this site too - and good friendly service-can' t wait for that to arrive as there are new toys in it...yes my birds have a zillion toys already -but now they'll have even more. My camera battery is recharging and then I'll have more to post.
